Computer Operations

Computer operations refers to controls that have been implemented to ensure that critical data and network resources operate with minimal downtime and can be recovered in the event of an unforeseen event. Some of the general areas that are covered under this very broad control area include:

  • Continuity of Operations
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Backup and Recovery from media
  • Availability of computer operators
  • Service outages
  • Power and backup power systems

These areas can be taken for granted but are in fact very important to daily operations. In the event of downtime if one or more of these areas is not well documented and planned out it can lead to extended downtime, data loss, and very unhappy customers. Click here to see a more detailed listing of the computer operations controls that will be covered during an IT general control review or audit.

If you have any specific questions regarding computer operation controls and compliance issues related to them, please contact Brian Markham at 301-405-1057.
