Personal Firewalls

If there is no reason for outsiders to be making connections to your computer, why let them? There are a number of software products on the market that do just that. Some, such as Zone Alarm, are free for non-commercial, non-institutional use (such as in your home or dorm). There is also a personal firewall built into Windows XP. It is not turned on by default, but you can enable it. Here is a Microsoft web page that shows how to enable the XP firewall.
